I didn’t know the First Nations were Christian. Last time I checked they followed mainly animistic religions until they were converted by Jesuits from France to Roman Catholicism. [thanks wikipedia]
Aren’t soldiers fighting to keep Canadians free to be free? Like, free to believe in whatever they want?
We didn’t get our flag until 1963, and “Oh Canada” became our anthem in 1980, so yeah, unless you’re only talking about wars that Canada has been involved in post-1980, that is total bollocks.
This original paragraph of narrow-mindedness was posted in regards to Australia. Someone apparently thought it would be fit to change it to Canada for whatever reason.
As much as people like to think, there isn’t a ‘war on Christmas.’ In fact, I haven’t heard of any school refusing to play the anthem because of the line “God keep our land glorious and free!”, other than this one. Schools have thought it would be more inclusive to not favour or celebrate any religious holiday as, you know, Canada isn’t a one-religion country. Also for those who didn’t know, the original English version of “Oh Canada” which was translated in 1908, contained no references to God or religion. Those parts were added to it in 1926. [again, thanks wiki]

Humour me for a second here, and imagine if you, as a Christian, went to a school that was largely comprised of people who followed a different religion, and that every time you tried to make things more inclusive to other beliefs, you got shot down with “this is how its been!
